Tooth Extraction in Clifton, NJ

Extracting an adult tooth is only done as a last resort, but in some cases it is really the only option. Whether this is because the tooth has died and it will be coming out soon anyway, or because the tooth is so damaged that it can’t be fixed, it is important to know how to best recover after a tooth extraction in Clifton, NJ. Of course, your dentist will do all they can to minimize any pain or discomfort, but when you have a tooth pulled, there will be some issues during the recovery process.

The pain, however, can be eliminated by following some important tips and tricks that have been shown to help your mouth heal faster and easier. This will start when Dr. Doktorman uses the advanced Vibraject delivery option for your anesthetic, which eliminates the pain of the injection. The anesthetic will then help make the extraction completely painless. Once you get home, however, you should follow the below recommendations to ensure your recovery is pleasant.

Tooth Extraction Recovery Tips

Whether you are having just one tooth pulled or multiple, you will want to be as prepared for the experience as possible. When you come home after tooth extractions in Clifton, NJ you will want to make sure you do all you can to speed the recovery along, and these tips will help:

• Take Medication Before your Appointment – If you take a dose of your preferred over the counter pain medication just before you go in for your tooth extraction, it will be working by the time the anesthetic from the dentist wears off. This can help to minimize the pain you’ll feel.
• Avoid Straws – Many people like to drink out of straws while recovering because it is easier than having to sit up. When you suck on the straw, however, it will pull on the opening in your mouth and could cause more pain. This can also pull out a blood clot and cause the spot where your tooth was pulled to begin bleeding again.
• Ice Chips – By keeping ice chips in your mouth you will be getting extra water, which is always good for healing, and you’ll also be numbing the spot where the tooth was extracted. This can help to reduce pain and allow you to be more comfortable.
• Keep it Clean – Keeping your mouth clean is very important, but you can’t really brush very well for at least a couple days. Instead, try rinsing your mouth out with salt water to flush away any germs or bacteria.

Of course, you should also listen to your dentist in Clifton whenever you have any procedure performed. They will often provide you with a list of recovery steps to help you through the first few days. With proper care, however, you can typically be back up and functioning like normal quite quickly. If you have any troubles or extreme pain, make sure you contact your dentist right away. Tooth extractions in Clifton, NJ are fairly routine and are not something that you should be overly concerned about as long as you take the right steps for recovery.

Information

Frequently questions

Tooth extraction may be necessary for various reasons, including severe tooth decay, advanced gum disease, overcrowding, impaction (e.g., wisdom teeth), trauma, or preparation for orthodontic treatment.

During a tooth extraction, the dentist or oral surgeon will carefully loosen the tooth from its socket using specialized instruments. Once the tooth is sufficiently loosened, it is gently removed. In some cases, stitches may be needed to close the extraction site.

Depending on the location of the extracted tooth and your individual needs, options for tooth replacement may include dental implants, bridges, or removable dentures. Your dentist will discuss the most suitable replacement options for you during your consultation.

The Doctor and staff are excellent! You couldn’t ask for a better team. I’ve had a lot of issues with dentists over the recent years because I require my gums to be numb for any kind of work done to my teeth and most dentists didn’t want to or said I didn’t need it and then got mad when they couldn’t work on me. Searched and found Dr. Doktorman had some good reviews and I gave him a try. Now my go to dentist here on out. Staff is just as great as well. All are friendly, funny at times, and on point.

Dr. Doktorman is friendly and patient. I never have to wait long for an appointment. However, I’ve had this experience on different two different occasions. The doctor injects novacaine before working on a cavity. He has me wait but by the time he comes back and starts drilling it feels like the Novocaine has worn off. He gives me more when I’m in pain. But still I’m trying to have the minimal amount of pain when I go to the dentist and want to be as numb as possible for the whole procedure. This is one reason that I wound up switching to a different doctor.

I am looking forward to my next visit to my oral surgeon in Clifton. That is when I am receiving my dental implants. I found him to be very pleasant to deal with and do not mind going to the dentist at all now. After my next visit I will have a full set of perfect teeth, which I have not had for a long time.

When we were searching for a new family dentistry in Clifton, Dr. Edward Doktorman was highly recommended to us by a couple of people. My wife and my son went to see him first for a checkup and then it was my turn. I required two dental implants that were done without any discomfort. His chair side manner is very comforting. I was a bigger coward than my wife and son but I actually enjoy my visits now.
