Introduction to General Dentistry

General dentistry services

General dentistry is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the overall oral health care of patients. It encompasses a wide range of dental treatments and procedures aimed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating various dental issues. General dentists are the primary providers of dental care for individuals of all ages, offering comprehensive services to maintain and improve oral health.

Advantages

Importance of General Dentistry

General dentistry near me
General dentistry plays a vital role in promoting and preserving oral health. Here are some key reasons why general dentistry is essential:

General dentistry emphasizes preventive care to keep dental issues at bay. Regular dental check-ups, cleanings, and oral examinations help detect early signs of dental problems, allowing for prompt intervention and treatment. By practicing preventive dentistry, potential dental issues can be addressed before they become more significant and costly to treat.

General dentists are trained to identify early signs of dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. Through routine examinations and diagnostic tools like X-rays, they can detect these issues in their early stages when they are easier to treat. Early detection can prevent further damage, reduce the need for extensive treatments, and save patients from unnecessary discomfort and expenses.

Wide range of dental treatments and procedures to address various oral health needs. From dental fillings and root canal therapy to tooth extractions and dental crowns, general dentistry covers a broad spectrum of treatments to restore and maintain oral health.

Education about proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing techniques, flossing methods, and the importance of a healthy diet. They also offer guidance on habits that can negatively impact oral health, such as smoking or excessive consumption of sugary foods and beverages. Patient education empowers individuals to take control of their oral health and make informed decisions for their overall well-being.

General dentistry often includes family dentistry, which means that dental care is provided to patients of all ages, from children to adults. This convenience allows families to receive comprehensive dental care in one location, making it easier to schedule appointments and ensure the oral health of the entire family.

Work closely with dental specialists, such as orthodontists, periodontists, and oral surgeons, to provide coordinated and comprehensive care. They can refer patients to specialists when specialized treatments or procedures are required, ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate and effective care for their specific needs.

Services

Services Offered in General Dentistry

General and cosmetic dentistry

At Dr.Edward Doktorman in Clifton, NJ, we offer a comprehensive range of general dentistry services to address all your oral health needs. Our experienced team of dentists and dental professionals are dedicated to providing high-quality care in a comfortable and friendly environment. Here are some of the services we offer in general dentistry:

Regular dental cleanings and examinations are the foundation of maintaining optimal oral health. Our skilled hygienists will thoroughly clean your teeth, removing plaque and tartar buildup, and our dentists will conduct a comprehensive examination to check for any signs of dental problems or abnormalities.

If you have a cavity or tooth decay, we offer dental fillings to restore the affected tooth. We use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing both functional and aesthetic benefits.

In cases where a tooth is severely damaged or cannot be saved, our dentists may recommend a tooth extraction. We perform extractions with precision and care, ensuring your comfort throughout the procedure.

When the inner pulp of a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, root canal therapy can save the tooth from extraction. Our skilled endodontists perform root canal procedures to remove the infected pulp, clean the root canals, and seal the tooth to prevent further infection.

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, can lead to serious oral health issues if left untreated. We offer various treatments for gum disease, including scaling and root planing, to remove plaque and bacteria from the gum pockets and promote gum tissue healing.

Dental crowns are used to restore and strengthen damaged or weakened teeth. They are custom-made to match the shape and color of your natural teeth, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional support. Dental bridges, on the other hand, are used to replace missing teeth and restore your smile.

If you have multiple missing teeth, we offer dentures as a removable tooth replacement option. Our dentists will create custom dentures that fit comfortably and restore your ability to chew and speak properly.

Regular oral cancer screenings are an essential part of general dentistry. Our dentists perform thorough examinations of your oral tissues to detect any signs of oral cancer early, increasing the chances of successful treatment.

If you suffer from temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, we offer various treatment options to alleviate pain and discomfort, including oral appliances, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

Restorative Dentistry in General Dentistry

Restorative dentistry plays a crucial role in repairing and restoring the functionality and aesthetics of your teeth. At Dr.Edward Doktorman in Clifton, NJ, we offer a comprehensive range of restorative dental treatments to address various dental issues. Here are some of the restorative dentistry services we provide:

Dental fillings are commonly used to treat cavities caused by tooth decay. We use tooth-colored composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution.

Dental crowns, also known as caps, are used to restore and strengthen severely damaged or weakened teeth. They are custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, providing both functional support and an improved appearance.

Dental bridges are an effective solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. They consist of one or more artificial teeth (pontics) supported by dental crowns placed on adjacent teeth or dental implants. Dental bridges restore your ability to bite and chew properly while maintaining the alignment of your remaining teeth.

Dental implants are a permanent and natural-looking solution for replacing missing teeth. They consist of titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. Dental crowns or bridges are then attached to the implants, providing a stable and durable tooth replacement option.

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth. We offer both complete dentures for patients missing all their teeth and partial dentures for those missing some teeth. Dentures are customized to fit comfortably and restore your ability to speak and eat with ease.

Root canal therapy is performed to save a tooth that is severely infected or decayed. During the procedure, the infected pulp is removed from the tooth’s interior, and the canal is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and sealed. A dental crown is often placed over the treated tooth for added protection and strength.

What you need

Cosmetic Dentistry in General Dentistry

General dentistry procedures

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on enhancing the aesthetics of your smile, giving you the confidence to show off your pearly whites. At Dr.Edward Doktorman in Clifton, NJ, we offer a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments as part of our comprehensive general dentistry services. Our skilled and experienced dental team is committed to providing personalized care and helping you achieve the smile of your dreams. Let’s explore some of the cosmetic treatments we offer:

Over time, our teeth can become stained or discolored due to factors such as aging, certain foods and beverages, tobacco use, or poor oral hygiene. Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic treatment that can dramatically brighten your smile. We offer professional teeth whitening options, including in-office whitening treatments and take-home whitening kits. Our whitening solutions are safe, effective, and can give you a dazzling smile that boosts your self-confidence.

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can correct a variety of cosmetic concerns, such as discoloration, chipped or cracked teeth, uneven spacing, or misshapen teeth. Made from high-quality porcelain or composite resin, veneers provide natural-looking results and can transform your smile into a flawless masterpiece.

Dental bonding is a simple and cost-effective cosmetic treatment that involves applying a tooth-colored resin material to the teeth. This material is sculpted and bonded to the teeth to repair chips, cracks, discoloration, or gaps between teeth. Dental bonding can also be used to reshape or lengthen teeth, giving you a more harmonious and balanced smile. The procedure is usually quick, painless, and can be completed in just one visit to our dental office.

If you have crooked, crowded, or misaligned teeth, Invisalign can help you achieve a straighter and more attractive smile. Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth into their desired positions. The aligners are virtually invisible, comfortable to wear, and can be easily removed for eating, brushing, and flossing. Invisalign offers a discreet and convenient alternative to traditional braces, allowing you to achieve a beautifully aligned smile without the hassle of metal brackets and wires.

Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry focuses on providing specialized dental care for infants, children, and adolescents. It is essential to prioritize oral health from a young age to ensure proper dental development and maintain a healthy smile throughout life. Our dentists are specially trained to address the unique dental needs of children and create a positive and comfortable dental experience for young patients.

Regular dental exams for children are crucial for monitoring their oral health and detecting any potential issues early on. Our specialists will evaluate the oral health of your child and provide comprehensive solutions for optimal oral health.

Evaluations work through thorough examination of a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth. The dentists will assess the development of primary (baby) teeth and permanent teeth, looking for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or other dental problems.

X-rays may be taken to assess the underlying structures and identify any hidden dental concerns, such as cavities or dental abnormalities. Low-radiation digital x-rays, ensuring minimal exposure and safety for children.

Dental cleanings are an essential part of children’s dental exams. The dentist or dental hygienist will carefully clean and polish the teeth, removing plaque, tartar, and stains. This process helps prevent tooth decay and maintains optimal oral hygiene.

We strive to educate children and parents about proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and a balanced diet. We also provide guidance on age-appropriate oral care practices and answer any questions or concerns.

Fluoride is often applied to children’s teeth during dental exams. Fluoride treatments help strengthen the enamel, making the teeth more resistant to decay. Pediatric dentists determine the appropriate fluoride treatment based on a child’s age and risk of dental caries.

Doctor Edward Doktorman luckily for me, has been my Dentist of choice for so many years. I have done multiple implants, root canals, bone graft, new posts and crowns, deep cleaning, filling, recementing, and other dental procedures in this office, and never had any issues afterwards. Dr. Edward and his staff are also great people on the personal level, very accommodating, very friendly, nice, helpful, go out of their ways to make the patient feel comfortable, and always smiling and joking with patients to lessen the stress of being at the dentist office. The Doctor always takes X-rays much more often than other dentists do before and after procedures (at no add’l cost to the patient) to make sure his work is done perfectly and satisfactorily. He always takes his time to explain in details what the diagnosis is and what needs to be done in an easy to understand language. You are no doubt in good hands with Doktorman.

From phone, to door, to chair, back to the door, this was a very positive experience. I put off a root canal for way too long. Don’t do that, by the way. Anyway, I ended up with a very angry abscess, went to one of those online doctors for $65 and got antibiotics and a dental rinse, and as soon as the swelling was sufficiently down, I decided to just have the tooth yanked. Back molar, not going to miss it too much, a lot cheaper than even going to Los Algones Mexico for a root canal which honestly these days makes a lot more sense than having it done for the higher price (even when factoring in air fare and hotel for dental tourism to Mexico) here in the States. In any case, everyone, and I mean everyone at this office is so friendly and polite and professional and efficient. It just so happened, and I certainly can’t guarantee this nor could this dentist, but I ended up being charged slightly less than the estimate they gave me. Even had it been the top and of the estimate, it’s still would have been a good deal. I would add that I am not a fan of Novocaine at all, and have had dental work done before without the shot because the regular pain I can handle, but I’m a baby about the Novocaine shot. This time I didn’t want to mess around since I was having a tooth pulled, but the dentist gave a fantastic shot and the entire procedure he did an excellent job. The healing process has been going very well with the exception of a bit of sharp bone sticking out the inner side of my gum (according to Google, this is not abnormal after a tooth extraction) and attacking my tongue on that side. I let them know about this today which is a Monday. I’m not scheduled to be back to have the stitches out until Thursday, but they told me that they would fit me in tomorrow. So let’s review: everyone in that office is friendly, professional, responsive, accommodating and efficient, the pricing is very gentle, and the dentist himself Dr. Doktorman does excellent work. So if you’re anywhere in reasonable commute distance and in need of a dentist, this seems like a pretty obvious choice. Going to a dentist is not recreational, but seriously, you’re going to be happy with them here.
